Asia Raye Miles (b. Sunnyside, WA) currently lives in Bangkok, Thailand with her family and works across drawing and fiber mediums. 

Statement

I create work that enlarges, distorts, and reflects the natural world and ourselves as an invitation to suspend wonder.

My process embodies an unhurried softness. As each piece is worked in a series of interconnected layers or spirals, I pull in new pigments and pieces to gently nudge the work toward its intended whole. This way of working reflects my life that grows forward toward an unrealized vision while simultaneously cycling back over the same places, questions, themes, and dreams I have already lived.

Impulses of my American efficiency and Asian rumination circle each other endlessly in my creative process. This whirlpool gives way to themes that evolve, loop, or teeter between forms: winged insects and their cocoons, rebirth in motherhood, the spiritual world and God, and movements of the cosmos.
