Asia Raye Miles (b. Sunnyside, WA) currently lives in Bangkok, Thailand with her family and works across drawing and fiber mediums. 

Statement

I create work that enlarges, distorts, and reflects the natural world and ourselves as an invitation to wonder.

My process embodies an unhurried softness that builds in interconnected layers and spirals. I gradually pull in new pigments and fibers to gently nudge the work toward its intended whole. This way of working reflects my life that grows forward while simultaneously cycling back over the same places, questions, themes, and dreams I have already lived.

Impulses of my American efficiency and Asian rumination circle each other in my creative process. This whirlpool gives way to themes that evolve, loop, or teeter between forms: winged insects and their cocoons, rebirth in motherhood, the spiritual world and God.
